  Preparing information about cults and mind control to a therapist...

  i'm currently visiting a psychologist/therapist to help me examine and work through my depression- i've had medical depression/anxiety all of my life.

  i'm no longer anxious or excessively paranoid for the most part- that was a part of my younger childhood, probably from fears and nightmares of destruction at armageddon, and other childhood exaggerations and amplified fears.

  but right now, she's treating me for a recent fall back into a depression.. anyways, for the most part, as you could guess, my depression stems from learning i have wasted my entire life (17 years) up to now in a cult, and pretty much my entire perceived world was nothing but an illusory concept.

  Hi Confliction,

  I am also seeing a psychologist for depression issues and I have had to educate her on JW issues. I’ve done it mainly by explaining things as I go – she asks questions if she wants, and I hope that if she wants more information, that she will educate herself online.

  I also had depression as a child/teenager, and I think it’s great that you’re getting help so early in life. Take advantage of all and any help that you can get. Trust me, it will help you in the longterm.

  Now versus 7 Years Ago.....

  we have been out of the organization since 1-1-2004 - at least that is the way we mark it to remember.

  we began to read ray's books in late fall/early winter of 2003 - a thousand pages later and a few weeks - viola - we were out to never return.. i was contemplating just how significantly i have personally changed in that period of time - not the stages, though there have been many stages.

  but the raw contrast of my opinions, moral stance, and view of the world is amazing.

  we have a few mentally ill ones in our congregation, and i don't mean suffering from depression or anxiety.

  i'm not even talking mild bipolar.

  i'm talking really messed up in the head, schizophrenic types, and bipolar withpsychotic features.

  Back in the 70s, there was a sister who clearly had mental problems, but back then she was considered as “demonised”. I remember one of her daughters gave me some old toys, but I wasn’t allowed to play with them because they came from a “demonised” home. One day I deliberately played with them, and got into trouble from my elder Dad. But I wasn’t affected, because the poor woman was mentally ill. Not demonised.

  so i had the baby at the end of june, he is a healthy, albeit large, baby boy, and prehaps the only man i may ever truly love.

  the dubby one foot in the other out bf has been an amazing help and is totally and completely in love with his son.

  I hope you are receiving emotional and physical help (eg help with washing, cooking, looking after baby) from your family and friends. If I lived closer I’d offer my help as well.

  They are also ignoring the elderly ones who can’t get out at night. I knew many older ones who couldn’t drive at night, or for one reason or another didn’t want to go out at night, so there was always a day group for them. Plus it helped those with unbelieving mates who could go to the day group while their husbands were at work.

  Too bad for them now, I suppose.

  i don't mean the basic moral code of behavior (that many non biblical lands also just happen to have) that people use to model their lives, but the 'deeper' stuff.... assuming that god has had his divine plan for vindicating himself etc ever since he figured that adam may screw up, and he needed to let faithful mankind know the 'plan' and how to survive it all.... why is the important stuff all gobbledegook?.

  the time frame, prophecy, signs and so on are all so obscure that even the cleverest theologians can't understand it or agree on it.

  the 'truth' is so muddled and juggled up that every understanding can be logically challenged with an equally challengable one.

  It was me who Stephen called an atheist, simply because I used an image from a website that called itself “proud atheist”. I had not said anything about being an atheist, because I am not. But Stephen’s leap in logic is just one example of his inability to discuss anything involving logic and sound reason.
